Tips on ice fishing with new, or young anglers

Get the kids out fishing this winter.

Winter ice fishing is a great way to introduce new anglers and kids to fishing.  Take them to a lake with plenty of fish.  You don't need trophy sized fish, but a lot of small fish to keep the interest level on the high side.

Run tip up's, they add action to fishing, the flag goes up and the foot race is on.

Try to pick a day with warm weather, a cold windy day on the ice isn't going to help you to get them back out again anytime soon!

Bring the BBQ and lots of snacks. Kids get bored easily, when the bite is slow fire up the grill. Murphy's law kicks in at this point and the fish will be hitting hard as soon as ones attention is on something other than catching fish!

Ice fishing for jackfish is a great way to teach proper handling and the release, as jacks are hardy fish. So one can take more time explaining the in's and outs of hook removal. Remember to have a camera ready for a picture before the fish is out of the water.

The last thing is to keep it fun!

Ice Fishing Safety

When venturing out on the ice this winter, keep safety as a number one priority. Always pack extra clothes in the event you may get stuck. Let people know where you are going if venturing out by yourself. If you're heading into an area with no cell service, take extra precautions. Play safe out there this winter and keep your hooks sharp!

Ice fishing season is here!

The open season is done for the year. We are excited to get out on the hard water for some ice fishing!

We spend a lot of time fishing Wabamun Lake for big ole jackfish. Ice fishing for these big old gators is exciting and action packed!

Get the whole family out for a day on the hard water. Ice fishing is an inexpensive way to get everyone out fishing. The Edmonton area offers plenty of fantastic fishing in the winter months.

Absolutely beautiful out for this time of year

Young Brock and a great fall Walleye.

Young Brock and a great fall Walleye.

Well, what can I say. It's November 6th and it's absolutely beautiful out for this time of year.

We are done guiding for the season, but I got the chance to get out with my son and target some nice fall Walleyes!  With the air temperatures in the the double digits, the water temperatures are staying favourable for fishing this late in the open water season. With plenty of bites throughout the day, one cannot complain. It appears like the weather is going to hang in there for another week, so grab your gear and capitalize on this gorgeous extended open water season here in Alberta!
